"Christening Kimono" oil 48" x 40"
This is a simple composition representing a child's christening kimono. I bought this kimono in Malaysia 7 years ago. I liked the color, it is a contrast to the heirloom kimonos that have been in my family since my Dad sent them home from Okinawa, in the mid 50's. Many times when I have exhibited my kimono paintings people have told me they remember the kimono they wore as a child. Many of these kimonos were gifts from fathers, who were stationed in Japan or South East Asia while in the military.
